Wrestler Information
Our Leagues

The Sparta Pride Wrestling Team is currently in three different leagues, with each serving their own purpose. We choose the following leagues based on what we feel will benefit our athletes the most. Too often wrestlers are thrown in against opponents who have far more experience than they do, just for the sake of filling a varsity spot. We refuse to do so. Our goal is to keep kids coming back year after year. With this format, we believe our wrestlers will grow at a far greater rate.

It all starts with the Novice level. Novice wrestlers are wrestlers who are in their 1st or 2nd year of wrestling, and who are no older then 11 (or 9 depending on league/tournament). Our novice wrestlers are taught at a much higher level than any other novice program. This is proven every season by our success at this level. Our novice wrestlers practice 2-3 days a week. They compete in the King of the Mat League, as well as tournaments of the wrestlers choosing. JV Level wrestlers will have the opportunity to not only compete in the K.O.M. League, but also in the NJFS Wrestling League. Due to our success and the reputation we built last season, we have been invited to join the NJFSWL. This League will be run exactly the same as a varsity league with weekly matches usually held on Friday nights. JV wrestlers also have the option of competing in Individual Tournaments as well. Varsity Level wrestlers will compete in the Passaic County League as well as Team and Individual Tournaments. Varsity and JV will practice 3 days a week.

K.O.M. (King of the Mat) League

The K.O.M. is a league geared strictly towards the development of Novice and JV wrestlers and focuses on mat time. This is the best way for beginners to improve their skills. Every Saturday multiple schools will host Jamborees. A Jamboree is when 4-6 teams gather at one school and wrestlers are grouped by weight. Novice will run first in typical novice fashion. It will consist of 4 kids to a mat running on 1 clock. JV will follow and have more of a varsity approach with one match per mat. This league has been going for a number of years and has been successful in reaching the goal of each child getting 3-6 matches in about 2 hours every Saturday. There are over 18 teams in the league and we will also be able to set up individual matches with them. At the end of the season there will be a Novice League tournament as well as a JV League tournament. The criteria for Novice is as follows: Any wrestler grades K-5 within their first or second year of wrestling. Anyone can wrestle in the JV league. We will have the dates and locations of our first few jamborees after our next meeting on the 11th of November. Last year we took home 18 medals in the end of the years tournaments, 10 of them were 1st places.

New Jersey Future Stars Wrestling League

League Mission - Provide a team-based, dual-meet season experience for wrestlers without starting opportunities in varsity leagues, or for those not yet prepared (physically, emotionally, or based on their wrestling-skills) to compete in local varsity leagues. Ultimately, the goal of the League would be to maintain - and perhaps enhance - the experience of the participating wrestlers, increasing the probability that they will continue to wrestle until they are developed enough to move into varsity league starting positions. At the end of the Season there will be a League Individual Tournament.

Passaic County League

The Passaic County League is a very competitive wrestling league with teams from all over North Jersey. In total there are 18 Teams that are split into two divisions. At the end of the season there is a league tournament, followed by two All-Star matches against other varsity leagues. Last year we had two league champions who went on to represent the Sparta Pride in the All-Star matches verses the Suburban League and the Tri-County League. Our wrestlers won both of their matches for the Passaic County League All-Star Team!
